ROMER sues for patent infringement PDF Print E-mail
Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA, November 2003 - ROMER has filed suit against FARO Technologies Inc. for patent infringement in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. ROMER asserts that U.S. Patent No. 5,829,148 "Spatial Measuring Device" issued on Nov. 3, 1998 to Homer Eaton, chairman of ROMER .

"The ability for a measuring arm to have unlimited rotation seems to be clearly protected by our patent and we are prepared to defend our intellectual property to the fullest extend," stated Eaton, inventor of the first articulated CMM arm. While the lawsuit does not specifically identify the accused FARO products, earlier this year, FARO announced that its new Platinum FaroArm CMM has "infinite rotatability at each joint." A trial date in the lawsuit has not yet been set.
