Infinite rotation patent re-affirmed PDF Print E-mail
North Kingstown, Rhode Island, September 6, 2007 - ROMER Inc., a Hexagon Metrology company, has received notice from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of its intent to issue a second re-examination certificate for ROMER’s U.S. patent No. 5,829,148 (“the ‘148 patent”), concerning the “infinite rotation” feature of its articulated measuring arms.

A re-examination certificate confirms the claims of a patent; this notice is the second confirmation from the U.S. Patent office that all the ‘148 patent’s claims are valid.

William Gruber, Hexagon Metrology Inc. president, stated: "The fact that the ‘148 patent has just withstood a second re-examination from the patent office with all claims intact confirms what we have always asserted: that the ‘148 patent is extremely solid and worth vigorously defending. The validity of the claims were also affirmed by a jury in Federal Court during our now-settled case with FARO Technologies. As a result of this settlement, ROMER and Faro arms are the only two products legally allowed to offer INFINITE ROTATION to the U.S. marketplace. We are pleased with this affirmation, and renew our commitment to defend our patent rights to the infinite rotation feature for portable measuring arms in the U.S. market.”

Hexagon AB, parent company of ROMER Inc., and the world leader in dimensional measurement technologies, has over 1500 active patents in force worldwide, and takes a serious view of patent infringement and adheres to the principle of legally defending it’s rights.
